Definition:
Hazard Identification (HAZID) is a structured approach to systematically identifying hazards within a process or system. This occurs early in a project development, often in the late conceptual or early basic.
Done per the most excellent ISO 17776.
Note this would be too early to meet the requirements of an H&RA.
Key Points:
- Often used during early project stages.
- Can be a precursor to more detailed HAZOP studies.
Example:
A HAZID workshop occurs during basic engineering phases with all the project stakeholder and a HAZID Facilitator. During this it identifies possible ammonia leak from storage vessels could cause issues so they make design modifications.
