Definition:
A Site Acceptance Test (SAT) is a test performed on systems after installation to ensure they function correctly in their operational environment. This is distinct from the FAT and the SIT. This would of course be performed on the SIS.
The FAT, SAT, and SIT are all per the excellent IEC 62381.
A SAT would occur before a Site Integration Test (SIT)
Key Points:
- Complements the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT).
- Verifies field wiring and device function
- This is typically done by “Commissioning” or the entire testing process is called “Commissioning”
- Would be part of Validation under IEC 61511-1
- Generally a procedure and a report
Example:
A SAT verifies that the shutdown valve closes when triggered by the SIS logic at site conditions. A SIT would verify the overall SIS works correctly and interfaces with the BPCS in the correct way.
