Definition:
A SIL Declaration of Conformity is a document issued by a manufacturer stating that their product meets the requirements for a specific Safety Integrity Level (SIL) based on internal assessments. Meaning, the manufacturer is stating they did everything they were supposed to do per the SIL Certificate and the Accreditation Body.
Distinct from SIL Certificate. This could cover a single special order item received, or could cover something like a group of (a procurement lot) of a component.
Key Points:
- Produced by the device or system manufacturer (like Siemens, E&H…). Generally as a byproduct of their Quality Assurance departments.
- Often shipped in the box of the item (or in the digital package).
- Not as rigorous or independently validated as a SIL Certificate issued by a Certification Body.
- Has minimal useful information for the Design Process. It is more of a document in Quality Assurance space.
Example:
E&H makes a SC 2 capable pressure switch. It used Exida as the certification body (CB) to produce the SIL Certificate for that line of pressure transmitters. The SIL Declaration of Conformity would be issued by E&H for the particular PT in the box. Maybe by the individual PT or the lot.
