Facility Types
This glossary category covers the kinds of installations functional safety work actually lands on. Not hull shapes or mooring choices, but facilities that each carry their own process equipment and their own safety architecture: floating production, storage, and liquefaction vessels, unmanned wellhead platforms and the central facilities they tie back to, subsea systems with no platform above them, mobile drilling units, and the midstream and onshore plants that do the same jobs on fixed ground. What separates one from the next is what the process does and what has to protect it. Right now the set is drawn from oil, gas, and midstream. Chemical and biogas facility types are on the list to add, so this category is not upstream-only.
